Defect in anterior fontanelle closure after 8 months of life

Although the baby is over 8 months old, the anterior fontanel (a hole in the bones of the head that is normally open at birth for all babies and gradually closes) has not closed completely yet. The top of the head on the side closest to the forehead can be palpated and a small, softer, boneless area under the skin can be felt.
